I have exclusively practiced family law in British Columbia since 2016. I have extensive experience representing clients in the BC Provincial Court, BC Supreme Court, mediation, and arbitration. I have a high success rate in both court and arbitration, and I’m often able to obtain favourable outcomes for my clients without ever stepping foot in a court room.

My goals with my clients are to:

• ensure that they feel heard and understood;
• empower them with knowledge about their legal rights and obligations;
• encourage practical, cost-effective, and amicable solutions;
• help them obtain the most favourable outcomes possible; and
• minimize legal fees and conflict.

I care deeply about my clients and they often express that they can tell. I’m motivated by my clients’ successes, whether obtained through negotiations or in a courtroom. “Success” is defined differently by many people, but in my view, success is a balanced and fair result, in which conflict and legal fees are kept to a minimum, especially if there are children caught in the middle.

I currently practice remotely and I offer a minimum 25% discount on my hourly rate to account for that. If I’m required to travel (whether for in-person meetings, court, mediation, or arbitration) this can usually be arranged at no cost to the client by reducing their discount.

My hourly rate after the 25% discount is $335.00, and I offer additional discounts on a case-by-case basis.

Clients referred through EAP (their Employment Assistance Program) receive a minimum 35% discount, which brings my hourly rate down to $290.00.

I offer 30-minute consultations via telephone, Zoom, MS Teams, FaceTime or WhatsApp. I currently charge a flat rate of $99 for 30-minute consultations. I’m also happy to answer anonymous questions from the public in our Forum at no charge, and I’m available on WhatsApp 7 days per week at 250-812-5730.

Katya Richardson

Family Lawyer

Katya earned her Juris Doctor from Western University in London, Ontario, where she volunteered at a legal aid clinic and successfully appealed a decision at the Social Benefits Tribunal. During her summer break, she interned with the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GATTW) in Bangkok, Thailand, where she conducted legal research and helped coordinate an international workshop for legal aid clinics dedicated to assisting trafficking victims.

Katya was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2018 and has focused her practice primarily on family law matters. Katya cares deeply for her clients, and she fiercely advocates for them with unwavering composure and professionalism.

Katya has extensive experience assisting clients with unique needs and she approaches each client with empathy and understanding. She empowers her clients by providing clear and practical advice, encouragement, and support. She offers flexible service options and unbundled legal services for clients who are willing and able to represent themselves on some level.

Katya is adept in the courtroom and has successfully obtained orders for exclusive occupancy of the family home, protection orders, spousal and child support, parenting arrangements, and interim asset distribution. She also successfully resolves many cases through mediation and arbitration, which helps to reduce legal fees and minimizes animosity in family matters.

Katya is respected by her peers and appreciated by her clients because of her passion and commitment for justice. When she isn’t serving her clients across British Columbia, she enjoys reading, hiking, and working out.

William DeWolf

Family and Wills & Estates Lawyer

William DeWolf has been practicing law for over ten years, primarily in the areas of family law and estate planning.

William is an accredited family law mediator and roster lawyer for the Society of Children and Youth BC.

After 10 years as a family law litigator, William now provides mentorship and strategic advice to other lawyers and litigants.

William is available to provide consultations and limited representation to clients in certain circumstances. William is also available to provide virtual mediation, cohabitation agreements, separation agreements, and estate planning services.

William offers a 10% discount on his full hourly rate of $500.00 for Vancouver-based clients, which reduces his hourly rate to $425.00. Christine Inducil

Family Lawyer

Christine primarily practices family law and has appeared in both BC Provincial Court and BC Supreme Court. Christine assists her clients in a multitude of family matters, including:

• child and spousal support,
• guardianship and parentage,
• parenting arrangements and parental responsibilities,
• contact with a child,
• extra-provincial family law matters, and
• division of assets and debts.

Christine also assists in drafting agreements, including cohabitation agreements, marriage agreements and separation agreements.

Christine was born in the Philippines but grew up in the Lower Mainland. She earned her LLB with honours in 2020 from the University of York in Yorkshire, England and received her LLM from the University of British Columbia in 2021. During her studies, she volunteered with Access Pro Bono and Rise Women’s Legal Centre.

Prior to joining The Law Portal, Christine worked at a boutique family litigation firm in Vancouver.

Christine is a strong advocate for access to justice and fiercely advocates for her clients. Christine recognizes that each client matter is unique. She ensures that her clients feel heard, empowered to make an informed decision about their matter and ultimately receives the most favourable outcome possible.

Outside of work, Christine enjoys recreational tennis, swimming and finds comfort in baking delicious treats for her husband, herself and her dog, Chip.

Chelsie Wandler

Senior Legal Assistant

Chelsie has been with The Law Portal team since the very beginning. Our clients adore Chelsie because she makes them feel heard and understood. She is a genuinely kind and compassionate person, and she has an amazing ability to stay calm in stressful situations. She often goes out of her way to help our clients and makes herself available far more often than required.

She’s currently transitioning to a career as a counsellor and life coach, but in the meantime, we are lucky to have her as an invaluable member of our team.

Dawn Shandley

Certified Divorce Coach

Dawn is a certified trauma informed divorce coach with in-depth knowledge about how to navigate a high conflict divorce with a difficult or narcissistic spouse. Rather than having to schedule sessions days or weeks in advance, she offers same-day support to her clients so she can be there when they need her most.

Dawn’s empathy for her clients is derived from her personal experience surviving a challenging divorce while trying to shield her children from the conflict.

Our clients who choose to utilize her services are more empowered, resilient, and knowledgeable about how to set themselves up for success in litigation or alternate dispute resolution methods. She is a fierce advocate for our clients during their journey towards a brighter future.

Noelle Froese

Administrative Assistant

Noelle has worked in the legal world since 2016, starting as a legal assistant in both family law and labour law fields with a focus on alternative dispute resolution. She returned in an administrative role with The Law Portal in 2024 after starting a family and moving cross country during a global pandemic (because she is a glutton for punishment and thrives in uncomfortable situations). Noelle endeavours to meet everyone with respect, empathy, and understanding in their unique circumstances. 

Noelle divides her time between being the cheerful voice of The Law Portal phone line and running her own custom baking business in Manitoba.
