If you’re an experienced and compassionate family lawyer looking to take control of your career and maximize your earning potential, look no further! At The Law Portal, our goal is to revolutionize the way lawyers work by providing them with the tools they need to earn more while they enjoy the freedom and flexibility of remote work.

Here are just a few reasons why joining The Law Portal will be the best career move you’ll ever make:

(1) Steady Client Referrals:

People are starting to hear about us, and we’re getting more consultation requests than we can accept. We’re selective about the lawyers we work with, and we’re committed to growing at a manageable pace so that our clients and our lawyers are well looked after.

(2) Provide Access to Justice:

Most people can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars each month in legal fees but make too much to qualify for Legal Aid. We believe that lawyers have a duty to make their services more accessible to the public, but this is easier said than done for those of us who are underpaid by law firms or have enormous overhead expenses. By keeping our overhead expenses to a minimum, we’re able to pass those savings on to our lawyers, staff, and clients.

25% Minimum Discount for Remote Lawyers

If you work remotely on a file (not within driving distance of your client and/or their court jurisdiction), we will require you to give that client a minimum discount of 25% on your hourly rate. If you have to travel for court or mediation, your travel expenses are generally charged to the client as disbursements, provided your client consents in advance. In our experience, our clients never take issue with this because travel expenses to attend hearings or trials are always significantly less than the savings they receive from the 25% discount.

15% Minimum Discount for Local Lawyers

If you live in a client’s local area, we will require you to give a minimum discount of 15% on your hourly rate.  We encourage our lawyers to offer additional discounts at their discretion.

(3) Unlimited Earning Potential:

You earn your billable hours, so why are you giving most of your earnings to a law firm? Whereas traditional law firms retain 60% to 75% of their associates’ earnings, The Law Portal retains between 20% to 30%. This allows our lawyers to earn more while charging their clients less.

The Law Portal retains 20% of lawyers’ collected legal fees on files that the lawyer obtains through external sources, and 30% of lawyers’ collected legal fees on files that we provide to them.

Here are two examples that demonstrate how we compare with traditional law firms, and why we’re able to provide our clients with affordable legal representation while paying our lawyers more.

Traditional Law Firm Associate

This is John. He charges his clients $350 per hour, but he only retains about $100 per hour because he works on salary. The law firm he works for keeps around 70% of his earnings, but he stays because he gets free benefits and he doesn’t want to deal with the stress of running his own law firm. If you think he looks miserable, you should see his clients!

The Law Portal Associate

This is Dawn. Her hourly rate was $350 at her previous law firm, but now she works with The Law Portal and she gives all of her clients a minimum discount of 25% because she works remotely. Her hourly rate is reduced to $262 after her discount, but she still earns over twice as much as she did at her previous law firm.

(4) Work-Life Balance:

We understand the importance of work-life balance. If you work at a law firm in a major city, you likely have billable targets of at least 100 hours each month. They need you to bill this many hours so they can still make a profit after paying their rent and other overhead expenses. A corner office and a few thousand dollars in perks would appeal to anyone, but it can’t compete with doubling your income, eliminating your commute, and choosing your own schedule.

At The Law Portal we prioritize the following three things above all else:

As long as these requirements are met, we’ll never tell you when to work, where to work, or how long you can go on vacation.

(5) Tools, Resources, and Support

After logging into your free portal through our website, you’ll be able to search for other members, send private messages, and ask legal questions in our private forum.

There are three levels of membership for lawyers with The Law Portal, each with their own level of support:

            Level One: Guests

Contact us to join as a Guest if you’re interested in networking with our other members in your private portal while you learn more about what we can offer you. Membership as a guest is private (your profile can only be viewed by other members after they log in), and there are no obligations or commitments. The public will only know that you’re a member of The Law Portal if you choose to post in our Public Forum or Blog page.

When you login to your portal, you’ll automatically be taken to your personal Dashboard, which looks like this:

Below is a sample of what a member’s profile page might look like:

Guests have full control over their notification settings, and profiles may be deleted at any time, upon request.

            Level Two: Associates

All associates receive client referrals and have unlimited access to support staff for all client files that are billed through The Law Portal.
