What is The Law Portal?

The Law Portal is a virtual law firm that offers the support of a firm, but the freedom and flexibility of working for yourself. Support staff may be independent contractors or employees of The Law Portal.

In addition to being a law firm, The Law Portal is a licensed employment agency in British Columbia, and we facilitate the permanent and temporary placement of support staff with lawyers and law firms across the province.

STEP FOUR

Accept tasks and enter your time

Tasks can be assigned through Clio or your online portal, where lawyers can specify the task; add a deadline; and authorize maximum billable and non-billable hours. After members have completed their tasks, they can submit their timesheets, invoices, and/or receipts.

STEP FIVE

Get paid!

Hourly rates and bonuses vary for support staff depending on their level of experience and the number of billable tasks assigned. Paralegals earn up to $120 per hour for billable tasks, depending on their level of experience, and may receive bonuses. Legal assistants can expect to earn between $30.00 – $42.00 per hour, and receive a minimum bonus of 10% on their collected fees each month.

All of our support staff are provided with flexibility, autonomy, and opportunities to earn significantly more than they would at other law firms.

STEP SIX

Access mentorship and support:

Everyone in the legal profession can use more support and mentorship, whether they’re just starting their career or have been working in the industry for decades.

All members can ask for help (or answer questions from other members) in our private Members Only Forum. Members can also send each other private messages through their online portals.
